Expectations were low after yesterday's unsuccessful fishing as the 6 of us headed out in our boat. At least we felt better informed about the tides.
As we approached the "aircraft carrier" at the entrance, the lures were set and within a couple of minutes Pete's gold deep diver had a hookup. The resulting run was a welcome change from yesterday, as was the sight of a good sized Queenfish as it lept from the water. Stelleen did a good job netting Pete's fish that was bled and prepared for dinner. 5 minutes into the day and we already had had more success than the previous day.
We trolled north along the Cape till nearly reaching our camp with no success, so we decided to head for the reef that had been so productive 9 years earlier.
Soon Hanno had hooked up to another nice Queeny that also put up a good fight and a few aerials before it was netted.
Queenies are ok eating fresh but we decided 2 was enough and so we tried a little bait fishing near the reef. A few bights but nothing to right home about, so when the reef began breaking the surface we decided to try fishing outside the home bay, where we could keep an eye on the ramp.
A couple of drifts between the rocky south point and the "aircraft carrier" saw Stelleen land a nice estuary cod and a legal mangrove jack, before we called it quits.
At least today we had a need to visit the filleting table.
Stelleen cooked the group a nice baked fish dish with the Queenies that went down really well as we finally got to enjoy a Crows match that saw them play the way we expect them to play, in a Thursday night came against Collingwood. Watching the game in Hanno's annex perched on the edge of the Indian Ocean, was a pretty good way to finish the day.
