After spending the night camped on the banks of the De Grey River we woke to the sight of a spectacular camping area. For the second day in a row we arrived at our destination after dark. This time the delay was in Karratha where we had to take the ute to Toyota after a recall, I then found a weigh bridge and had the rig weighed. This combined with a bit of shopping meant we left Karratha later than planned and hence the late arrival at De Grey.
This Free Camping spot was as good as we have experienced on this trip. The morning was spent walking the banks of this magnificent river. As far as we walked we kept coming across top spots to camp. This combined with new toilets and free wifi added up to a place we will spend time at again.
After filling up on water at the Pardoo Roadhouse we headed in the 15km off the road to Cape Keraudren.
After using the Seniors Card to get discount we forked out the the $55 for five nights and headed in to this coastal reserve to find a camp site. Despite being told there were no spots left on "Snob Hill" we found an ideal spot on the cliffs edge in almost the same place we camped when last here 9 years ago.
Cape Keraudren is at its best when the inlet is full and as we arrived at high tide we were greeted by panoramic views of the coast and inlet.
With 6m tide movement today (and even bigger tides over the next week) the view from our cliff top changed throughout the afternoon as we set up camp and prepared for a few days fishing.
One of the local kangaroos decided to pay us a visit as we were setting up camp. Complete with a sizeable Joey in her pouch the super friendly roo spent the afternoon with us and at times was resting its head on Eleni's lap.
From inside Pete's mozzie tent we are looking across a bay and north along a white sandy beach that disappears into the horizon. If it wasn't for the sand flies this place would be about as good as it gets.
Spanish Mackerel for tea again tonight. Yep, we sure are doing it tough.
