As I've done for the past 23 years, 2nd November is a day to celebrate and reflect. Thankfully the 2nd November 1992 is still as bright and clear in my mind as it was all those years ago, and I hope it never diminishes.
Life seemed so carefree back then and I don't think we were naive believing we could live this lifestyle for maybe 5 years, like so many people thought we were - what can I say? At no point have we ever thought we made a mistake doing what we do, but the tyranny of distance can sometimes create issues, especially living in Broome which is akin to living on an island! This was made very real when we made an unexpected trip to Adelaide last month but happy to say the outcome of that trip was very positive. Thanks to the McMillan gals for taking care of us xx
As you know this year has found us ensconced in Broome, a trifle longer that I would have expected but very happy to say that the end is in sight albeit probably not until the end of the year. The weather has been very hard to cope with since we arrived back from our most extraordinary Northern Hemisphere adventure and I just want to hibernate with the air conditioner on and although I never want to wish time away I wish the rain would arrive NOW not in 6 weeks time. Anyhow that's just ridiculous so I go to gym and Pilates to try to rid myself of some of the northern hemisphere that I brought back on my waist and hips! I digress....how unusual!!!! Our "plan" was to leave Broome after Easter next year but as happens more often than not that plan has changed and instead of going north we'll be going south, back to the beautiful outskirts of Perth. To cut a long story short Kimbo is going to work out of the Perth depot for his current employer. We were flown to Perth the weekend before last so that I could view our new "digs" at the depot............yes we will be living in the truck depot!
It was so refreshing to be in Perth and wake up to clean crisp air with no humidity and although we were only there for a short time we certainly had a good time....thank you Emma and Luke xx
Since being back from our most extraordinary Northern Hemisphere adventure just over a month ago, it's only been in the last week or so that we feel life has settled back to our "normal". My plan is to update my blog with our holiday adventure, but that will be a little way off yet as we're still trolling through our photos and tracking the trip. I think we have in excess of 3,000 and that's without the photos we've "lost" of our first day in London, which is a little sad but I figure if I can still remember leaving Adelaide on 2nd November 1992 I expect to remember 24th August 2015 forever! Facebook is a huge help (who would have thought) as I can look book at all the check-ins and I'm back there. I'll tease you with a couple of photos now, but I will get around to updates when time permits. Having said that I feel like I'm digging a bigger hole for myself as I get further behind in "catching" up on our last 20 or so years. Oh well we all have to have projects!!!!
Kimbo is still loving his job but as the heat and humidity has kicked in it makes it a bit more of a challenge when he works outside, but I think that's quickly forgotten when the after work beers kick in! He's looking forward to his new role and undertaking some longer haul trips.
I was expecting to be undertaking turtle monitoring by this time but sadly it appears that won't be happening this year as Bonnie the coordinator has moved on and hasn't been replaced and unless another agency takes over, although the turtles of course will still arrive and lay their eggs, no records will be kept which is a little sad. I will remain ever vigilant keeping an eye on any nests I see.
You are aware of how the past 12 months has panned out so I won't recap on all of that.
Enjoying the company of good friends and probably a little bit too much sometimes!
Saying goodbye to friends is a constant and having them back even for a short time is always fun.
Until the next update enjoy all that life throws at you xx
