I have been reminded lately that I haven't provided an update since arriving here 2 months ago.
So here we go……….but where has that time gone?
Kimbo is enjoying his job after not being too sure to start with.
He was really hoping to do some road train long haul but a big day for him is about 10-20km loading/unloading the enormous tugs and work boats that service the oil rigs that bob around some 500km offshore.
So he basically drives up and down the Broome wharf. The money's good and the work isn’t hard so a win, win. It was a bit full on when he started and didn’t know what he was doing from one day to the next.
But he has managed to fit in a game of golf.
I had a short stint working at Liquorland but after 4 weeks and not many hours I realised retail really isn’t for me.
However my full-time domestic goddess duties are about to end as I start work at the Port Authority next week covering a maternity leave position of some 6-7 months and 2-3 days per week. So I too will be mooching around the wharf area. Not far to travel as we’re only 5 minutes drive away which is handy.
I had a quick trip to Adelaide to attend some unfinished business and although the couple of days were busy it was wonderful to catch up with Bet and Stu; Andrea, Liz, and special thanks to Janny for all you did and Cate for the bubbles.
House sat over Easter and looked after Cassie (10 year old golden retriever) and Jessica Rose ( 10 year old ragdoll cat) so that De and Pete could get away and as a bonus we offered to look after Lewie a 9 month old boxer (not my favorite dog choice) and we took them down the beach......the dogs that is. Kimbo had to take control and he did it well.
I’ve had some glorious walks along the beach, there is no excuse not to do it after I take Kimbo to work between 5.30am – 7.30am. Earlier is best because once that sun is up I’m reminded where we are. It has been over 5 months since we’ve had a day under 30 degrees and when that day does come I’ll be very happy. I’m wanting to jump on my bike but even though the humidity has dropped at lot since we arrived it doesn’t take long to work up a sweat. Maybe I’ve just softened as I’ve gotten older……..too sad! There’s only been a couple of showers since we arrived and it looks like we’ll have to wait until the wet season to see anything that resembles rain.
It’s been wonderful to catch up with old friends and to make some new ones. I’m looking at joining Rotary International after a chance meeting with the secretary of the Broome Club at Cable Beach Club a couple of weeks ago. I really like what they do and how they give back to the community.
We had a visit from the Bad Girls and some of their bad friends when they spent several days up here to attend a friend’s 50th birthday. We had a fabulous time and to say we packed a lot in is an understatement.
As we do every year we attended the Anzac Day Dawn Service, once again a very moving ceremony and although we had to drop Kimbo to work straight afterwards, we three girls dropped into the RSL club for a shot gun breakfast provided as always by the Broome Lioness Club. Well done to all concerned.
We had a disappointing dinner experience and I will name and shame – Zanders Restaurant (will never go there again) but if that was the lowlight it was quickly forgotten by the amount of highlights.
We had a fabulous dinner experience last weekend at the Wharf Restaurant with De and Pete, seems the wharf is a big part of our life currently! What a difference great food and great service can make.
STOP PRESS: I didn't expect we'd see any more rain until next wet season and blow me down.........tonight it rained and look what Kimbo decided to do..........bless him xx
