So, having arrived in CT, the weather turned decidedly cloudy - though still quite warm. Forecast for following day not great either.
Walked round the corner to book Basilico (Italian) for dinner and popped across the road to Barristers (pub restaurant) for a snifter! Turns out the Wijn Huis restaurant (one of our favourites and a Newlands institution) has closed! A sad day!
Following day dawned cloudy and cool (as forecast). ADOGs cracking Black Friday deal on the hotel does not include breakfast but there are a couple of nice cafes round the corner that do breakfasts and are remarkably busy around 08.30. Seems Capetonians like to do business over breakfast and they are probably all working from home. Still, one of hen does eggs benedict so that will become the favourite!
Went to Hout Bay but it was still cloudy and windy there. The whole place was incredibly quiet - clearly very few tourist visitors. Had a coffee and moved on to Camps Bay. Sun was out there and things were a bit more lively.
Then back to hotel for a snack lunch on the terrace and an afternoon by the pool. The latter is large and there are lots of sun loungers and people (noticeable after our small guest house previously), a gym, waiters the whole gamut!
Dinner at Barristers. Today (Thursday) was sunny ☀ (yippee) and we did a run up to Langebaan on the West Coast. Drove through the National Park and saw no animals (well, LMAG said she saw a mouse/vole at a photo stop but otherwise nothing. On the journey back, passing a safari farm we did see 3 giraffes and later a couple of ostriches.
Tonight we are eating in the hotel in the garden and tomorrow we are out to dinner at Elsbeth’s house (used to work in ADOGs office) and then Saturday we are moving on to our last stop.
That’s all for now - not hugely exciting I’m afraid.
