One of the the things I forgot to mention was that while we were on the boat we saw a lot of seals lounging around in the water and on the way back we saw about 30 dolphins in 3 groups. They even did some jumps for us and a couple swam under our boat.
The other day there were no local commuter trains. These are not the most desirable form of transport but a lot of workers do rely on them. Turns out, the railway had not paid Eskom for their electricity! Eskom are bust at the best of times but when a major customer doesn’t pay they become more bust! So they cut off the power and a payment was made! Don’t you just love Africa?
On Monday we thought we would have a walk on the beach at Hout Bay before lunch. Lin checked the weather - sunny. So off we set over the mountain and when we got within about a mile we found the whole place was covered in cloud and the temperature had dropped to a chilly 15c. Well, chilly for us! So, having stopped only at PnP for some water, we returned to the nice sunny weather at home (23c) and went for a coffee!
At lunch time we went to Barristers to meet Gary (who Andy used to work with) and his wife Jenny. Had a very enjoyable catch up!
We have made firm friends with Jake (boxer dog). He spends quite a lot of time with us, especially if his M&D are out. Or are being boring. On Monday, they both go to work and at 8am Jake was banging - none too quietly - on our French doors. We were still in bed! Andy had to get up and tell him off!
Today, Tuesday, is our last day in CT. We packed and then went to Kirstenbosch for a wander. We wondered why the car parks were so full and then realised that SA Seniors get in free on Tuesdays! And the cafes run special deals. This means that the poor service becomes even worse and we had to wait over 20 minutes for a coffee and an orange juice! We were doing our best to bring the average age down. Slightly! Andy felt young, Lin felt very young!
So this is being written in the departures at CT airport. Because of the traffic we have to get here wildly early and then have to sit around for yonks. Not a great pastime! The only benefit is that the air conditioning is efficient against an outside temperature of 32c!
So we’ll see you on the other side with a few disconnected Jottings as usual.
