Of to Widjana Gorge, another big journey on a corrugated road!! Really different scenery, Boab trees amongst Ancient Devonion Reef. Great camp ground with solar hot showers and flushing toilets-always exciting! We set up in a shady spot and the kids noticed a Bower Bird nest. He was very busy collecting all his goodies to impress the ladies, and kept us entertained at camp. The camp ground faced one of the gorge escarpments, which changed colour in the light, from black to yellow to orange-not a bad view to enjoy a glass of wine while the sun goes down.
Enjoyed the gorge walk, checking out the ancient reef fossils in the cliffs. There were more fresh water crocodiles then we have seen so far, at one stage, Emma had counted up to 19, in one area-and that's just the ones we could see! It was an awesome sight to see the creatures in there natural habitat.
The walk through Tunnel Creek was also amazing, and probably the most unique walk we have done yet. It is through a 750m long tunnel. Great stalagmites, bats, and really dark. We had to wade through water up to our knees (top of thighs on Aden and Amelia!), watch not to hit our heads and take it all in. I was relieved to come out the other end, which didn't disappoint with some aboriginal rock art and a spot to sit and enjoy Tunnel Creek. Kids really enjoyed the tunnel walk, and Aden was stoked that it wasn't a long way!! Again there is not much information about the Traditional Land Owners. There was a bit of European history that talked about Jandamara. A truley amazing aboriginal man, fighting for his people back in the late 1800's. it was a shame this information was mostly European based, and we walked away, wondering the cultural significance of this amazing area.
