Feeling better now-so all ready to move on to somewhere new! Off to Karijini National Park. A 200km red dirt trip into the park!!! I can't believe just how dusty everything gets! A really nice reminder of the time I spent living in the Pilbara in 1985 with mum and dad. Not sure how my mum kept us 4 kids clean-my 3 are filthy! This trip also gave us a flat tyre, (after pulling off the road to let mining equipment past)-not to worry-boys had it all fixed up in a jiffy! Karijini was again, spectacular. A deep gorge (Dales Gorge)-with a goat trail down to the bottom, then a shady walk up the gorge to the Fortesque Waterfalls. It was fun negotiating the gorge floor, skipping over the rocks and negotiating the creek crossings. We continued on to the Fern Pool, and was rewarded with a beautiful aboriginal sacred site. The Fern pool is home to the Great Serpent. There is a sign permitting swimming in the crystal clear water-but giving instructions to not "jump, or make load noises in the water". This is to not disturb the spirit. You could really feel the "specialness " of this place. And it was a nice change to have some information about the traditional owners. ( WA does not give very much info on the traditional owners, such a shame, as you can feel how important this land would be to their culture). The evenings were freezing, one night dropped to 4.5 degrees!! Fires were not allowed in the campground -so that made it even colder. We did pull out Barb and Johns heater, and fleecy blankets, sit close together and have hot chocolate.....arghh...the joys of camping!!
