Toad River, British Columbia to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory-474 miles
72o & Sunny
Day 66
The road was in fairly good condition; much better than we expected based on the roads we traveled yesterday. Although early in the day the Alaskan Highway did decide to take our breath away once again. We traveled along Muncho Lake. The lake was gorgeous, long, narrow, and a beautiful blue green. We are told that the blue green color is from mineral sediment in the glacial runoff that occurs mainly in the warmer months. The highway wound around a shear cliff wall on the passenger side of the RV. The road was only two lanes wide and had no shoulders or guardrails. The edge of the road dropped directly to the lake. Scary stuff! We wound around this road for 20 miles. I was checkin' my shorts again.
We stopped for lunch at Watson Lake. We parked and had our meal in a small town park by Wye Lake. The mountains surrounded this beautiful blue green lake.
We drove north and west. We saw bison on the side of the road. They were huge. The caribou and elk ran at will also.
We started hitting a few "whup-de-doos", what the locals call frost heaves in the highway, right before Whitehorse.
We arrived at our day's destination Pioneer RV Park about 6:00pm, tired from the day's trip. The RV park was crowded with tight accommodations.
As the day ended, you notice I am not saying "when the sun set", it doesn't, Hugh and I sat in the RV. We had a little wine, and marveled that we had come this far. It was beautiful!
