Amarillo, TX to Checotah, Oklahoma- 360 miles
95 Sunny
Day 104
We leave early again to try to beat our nemesis the afternoon heat.
We saw an interesting sight near Britten, Texas, right off the route 40. A church on the side of the Highway erected a large cross. The claim was it is the largest cross in this hemisphere.I do not know if that is true, but it sure was big.
As we leave Texas the wind picks up considerably. The Blue Beast is rockin' and a rollin' by noontime. Hugh is a great driver. He has to keep all his attention on keeping the RV straight on the road. Traffic is heavy due to the up coming Labor Day weekend. There sees to be a lot of trucks and the roads from Oklahoma City on are very rough.
We arrive at our destination Checotah, Eufaula KOA.The RV Park was very nice. Just off the highway the RV Park offered very large lots. The lots had grass and big trees for shade. The family, who ran the RV Park, also ran a small restaurant and gift shop. We ate dinner there. The blackberry cobbler al a mode was scrumptious.
Today is Abbie's Birthday. She's oblivious; but to us it seems like yesterday that she joined our family. This RV Park has a huge pet area that she loves.
As evening approaches we walk down to the muddy lake. We all enjoy the freedom from the confines of the Blue Beast.
The walk through the woods is just what we all needed.
It was beautiful!
