Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to Toad River, British Columbia - 474 miles
65 & Overcast
Day 86Today would be another in a series of long ones. I dreaded this drive. It was some of the most beautiful, yet the unmarked roads were narrow with no guardrails, and shear drop-offs. Whoever said this was a highway must be jesting. At least it wasn't raining.
We saw wild buffalo, caribou, deer, moose, and a bear along the side of the road. It was very wild country.
As we traveled thru Muncho Provincial Park I was not as nervous about the drive as expected. The vista of the glacial river below was awesome. Some of the park was as barren and rocky as a moonscape.
Of course the final portion of our trip took us around Muncho Lake. This section of highway was right next to the water. No shoulders, no guardrails, and no margin for error here!
Finally, we reached Toad River…and a beautiful RV Site at the Toad River Lodge on the Moose Pond. We feasted on Toad River Lodges specialty Irish Beef Stew, (I found out from the cook the secret to the sweet taste is a turnip).
It was beautiful!
