The hotel that we are staying in at the moment has a free bicycle rental service. A lot of people cycle around Hoi An because some parts in the middle of town no cars are allowed. So we decided to make use of this. We borrowed two bicycles and head off in the direction of the beach. It was really nice to be on a bicycle for a change. When we got to the road for the beach, around five different women ran out asking us to park our bikes with them. We rode past them and a security looking guy blew a whistle and said no bicycles on the beach, the guy had nothing which looked official. The women were asking for 5000 VND to park each bike. From our previous experience with a lot of the Vietnamese we were suspicious it was some sort of scam. We rode further down a rode which ran parallel with the beach and ended up finding a place to park our bikes for free and it was a really quiet part of the beach too. On this part of the beach there were lots of small round fishing boats on the sand and a few in the water. We sat in the shade for a while watching them in and out of the water. We got back in our bikes and made our way back to the hotel, we spent the rest of the afternoon by the swimming pool.
