We got a wake up call at 7am this morning telling us breakfast would be ready at 7.30am so we got up and sorted and out to sit at the dining table for 7.30am. We ate breakfast and then about 10 minutes after we'd finished we went straight on a trip to a cave. We got on the little boat which took us to the island and dropped us off. We followed Tom through the caves where he pointed things out to us and told us about the history of the caves. There were yet more steps today but not as steep as yesterday. The cave was huge! There was so much to look at and it was hard to believe it was below one of these islands. After we were finished in the cave we got back on our boat where James and I were told we had 15 minutes ish to get a day bag packed for our second day of the trip. There was no one else from our group who was doing a two night stay on the boat so everyone else got ready to check out of their rooms. Another boat came to pick James and I up, all we needed was a day bag because the rest of our luggage we could leave in our room on the main boat. We said bye to everyone and swapped details with Kat and David. When on the new boat we drove for around 10 minutes when we picked up our guide for the day and some supplies, he explained we would be travelling for around an hour before getting to the place where we would be doing some more kayaking for around 1 hour 15 minutes. He said we could sit on the top deck of the boat if we wanted so we did. It was nice it had turned out to be just the two of us for this part of the journey. When we stopped it was time to get in the kayaks, they were a different sort this time, more closed in so he said we would not get very wet, no need to change clothes. We got in the kayak and set off with a guy called Hiep as our guide. We travelled away from the boat for some time and reached a low cave which we went underneath, this was great. There were bats in the cave, if you were quiet you could hear them and occasionally you could see them flying around. Once through the cave we came out into a beautiful pool surrounded on all sides by the islands, the only way to get in or out was through the cave by kayak. We looked all round it, there were shallow parts where you could see some sort of fishing pots in the water, we asked what these were, they are pots with oysters in which are growing pearls. There were also quite a few fish all around too. There was only the three of us in here to begin with so if you stopped moving and stayed still it was so quiet and all you could hear were the sounds of wildlife in the trees around us. We then went to a far corner of this space where there was a very small opening, this really was only for kayaks, so small you could touch both walls with the paddle. Once through we were in a smaller closed off part where we moved around the edges, we could see loads of fish beneath us. After this we headed back to the boat, there was another cave not far from the boat so James asked Hiep if we had time for a look, he said 10 minutes so we went in. It was yet another gorgeous open space surrounded by islands. We made our way back to the boat, we felt a couple of drops of rain and then it started to get heavier. Hiep said quickly to the boat, while laughing as we were all getting soaked. We got back alongside the boat and got off under the cover of the boat, they had brought our bag and James' jumper from upstairs but it had already got wet from the rain. We were given towels to dry off and then 10 minutes later it was lunch time. We had all sorts for lunch, too much food for just two of us. We were asked whether we minded that they had their lunch at the same time in the boat and of course we said we didn't mind at all. After lunch the rain had passed and we were just chilling on the boat for a little while. We went up to the top of the boat again, mainly to try and get dry! We were told we would be setting off to go through and look at a fishing village, then into a pearl farm and if we have time we would look at a secluded beach. So we set off for the fishing village. We got to it and went through, there were loads of houses floating on the water and boats/rafts going between them. There was one huge boat and our guide told us that was for fresh water for the homes. There was one small boat which was being expertly rowed by a girl who looked no more than five years old by herself. We moved onto the pearl farm which wasn't very far away. We got off the boat, Hiep came with us to have a look. It told you about how an oyster grows a pearl and showed you different types of oysters, around the back they had sectioned off water with baby oysters dangling off rope. Apparently after 18 months you can then implant a grain of sand in order that the oyster will make a pearl. We then moved onto someone doing just that. Then obviously at the end there was a shop filled with pearl necklaces, earrings, rings and anything you could make from pearls. We had a look but bought nothing. Back on the boat we were told we'd have enough time so we will visit the beach, it was another little journey so we sat in the top of the boat taking in the views. When we got there, there was no one else there. We got off the boat and walked along the beach and James had a paddle. Hiep came too and said we could walk up the island if we liked, we thought why not and set off up. We got to about half way and the steps stopped and it was just dirt track the rest of the way, it really wasn't the easiest to climb! We got there though and the views were amazing, it was worth it. We made our way down which was harder than the way up and got back on the boat. We then made our way back to the big boat for us to join another group. We got back onto the big boat just as the group were getting ready to do their kayaking like we did on the first day. We met Kym who is the guide for this group and we met two German blokes, they went off kayaking and we put our things in our room and went on the top of the boat to watch them go. We were watching when another person came upstairs, he was from Malaysia originally but worked and lived in Australia now. We chatted to him for a bit, he was in Vietnam for his brothers wedding which was three days ago, he married a girl originally from Vietnam but they live in Australia too. They are on this trip as well as the guys parents but he wasn't feeling so well so he opted out of kayaking and came up to watch instead. We watched everyone come back in and then went to our room for a bit before another cooking class. We sat by the bar while everyone made their way to the dining room, it was awkward trying to explain where we'd come from because it looked as though we'd appeared from no where. We met just about everyone then sat down to make fresh spring rolls. They were nice but not as good as the cooked version! After this we moved away from the table and chatted to the German guys about travelling and where to go. Then we had our tea, it was yet again a feast and we were stuffed. We sat around and talked for a while afterwards, then everyone went out for the squid fishing, we did a little but it was freezing. We then took ourselves off and had an early night, some of the other people in the group had already done so, so we didn't feel so bad
