Most of the day was spent on the train from Venice to Naples- a long 5hr stretch even on the fast train. We did get a welcome drink in first class which was pretty much full of tourists. Eventually we arrived into Naples, confronted with rubbish piled up on the side of the street & plenty of unsavoury characters. My one single mosquito bite from Venice had become infected and swollen up the area just above my knee making it painful to walk so after stopping at the chemist on the way to our hotel nearby we stayed in for a few hours not really very keen to venture out into the third world concrete jungle outside. The saving grace of Naples was that it was the home of pizza so for dinner, with our wits about us, we went in search of Da Michelle, a basic pizza restaurant which is an institution and has been serving pizzas since 1870, including to Julia Roberts in Eat, Pray, Love. After a short line up at the door we were sat at a table sharing with another patron & it didn't take long to decide what to order as they only had two choices- margarita & marinara (not seafood, just tomato, oregano & garlic)- we ordered one of each. It was a pretty good pizza but pretty simple so we weren't over the top impressed but at least we had a starting point to compare other pizzas to. We hustled back to the safety of the hotel afterwards.
