As we decided to have 4 nights in Dublin with maybe a day trip or two instead of hurtling around the country it was nice to not rush out of bed this morning. We decided to go on a 'free' (they work on tips alone) walking tour at 11 so grabbed a quick breakfast to go on the way to the meeting point. The tour was really informative & the guide quite a comedian so the stories told as we walked around Dublin castle, the cathedral, Trinity college & St Stephens green kept us entertained for 4 hours. Being almost 3pm we were more than ready for lunch & both craving pasta stopped at an Italian place just off Grafton street. We had decided to spend the afternoon going out to Howth on the dart so set off up Grafton street to Pearse station for our little sea side trip. It was only about 20mins on the train & we were at the northern head of Dublin bay. Firstly we walked along to some big stone gates which was the entrance to Howth castle who's grounds also include a golf course & hotel/spa. Parts of the castle are still lived in but the outer towers were looking a bit in disrepair. We walked through the grounds a little further then returned to town to walk out on the breakwater for some possible seal spotting. Unfortunately we didn't see any seals but did get some fresh sea air in our lungs. We were soon back on the dart heading back into Dublin & the hotel. After a big lunch and a big day of 22,000 steps we decided to eat in the pub attached to the hotel which had a delicious special of a steak sandwich & pint of Guinness for €14. Quite worn out we only needed to take the lift up to our room for bed.
