We were glad not to have booked the earliest train out of Belfast so we could leisurely get to the station for 10.35 in a bit of luxury by taxi. The 2hr train ride went quickly & before we knew it we were in the Republic of Ireland's capital. We took the dart a couple of stops to Grand Canal Dock station which was conveniently right near our hotel. Having looked at lots of hotel options we were happy with where we chose at it was a really nice room with an extra single bed & even chocolates on the pillow. It was just a bit further to walk to the centre, which we did next stopping for a quick lunch and then stalled by a rain shower we had to pop into the closest pub where Sean had his first proper Irish Guinness. Once the rain had passed we continued into town & cutting through Trinity College we arrived at the Liffey. Crossing over we continued up O'Connell St with the pointless but pointy spire towering over us & the infamous GPO used in the 1916 uprising passed on our way to the tourist info. With brochures a plenty we wandered right up to the top of O'Connell St. & searched for WJ Kavanagh Pub which we had seen advertised in the onboard train magazine from Belfast. At €15 we decided not to try the beer aged in Jameson barrels but did try a few of their micro brew beers. Wandering back down towards the Liffey we had dinner at a craft brewery 'Sweetmans' just on the south side. My salmon fillet was delicious as was Sean's pork belly & the beers weren't bad either. Returning to the hotel we walked along the river to the harp shaped bridge, with a quick stop at another pub which was a bit touristy before arriving back for the night.
