After a few early starts we treated ourselves to a sleep in this morning before setting off on foot into the centre of Vienna. Being a Sunday most places were closed so once we had passed the Hofburg we found a Turkish restaurant for a pizza lunch/late breakfast. Still sans coffee I lowered myself to Starbucks although after a long wait & a weak coffee it really didn't change my opinion of them. We stopped by the tourist info although it was pretty sparse on information & then found where the Lokalbahn trams went from. This one tram line travels both on its own underground tracks & on normal railway tracks at the edge of the city. From here we followed the pedestrian street onto Stephansdom, the large gothic cathedral which towers over the centre & is famous for its coloured tile roof. It was half covered in scaffolding so not as impressive as usual. We wanted to enquire about river cruises to Bratislava so wandered further through the centre to the river but finding it would be €30 each way we decided the train would be ok as it was free with our Eurail pass. Not being particularly motivated for walking today, maybe it was the late coffee, we took the Metro back to where the Lokalbahn left from and took a ride out to the end of Zone 1 and back. Taking the metro back to the hotel we relaxed until dinner time and then walked back towards the city to a microbrewery called 7 Stern we had spotted on our walk in this morning. We tried most of the beers, including the chilli beer & had a hearty meal before walking back to the hotel.
