Brenton Kovacs's Travels
8th
Its just after 6am and i am woken by the call for pray from the mosque nearby. Need to get up anyway to get ready for our flight this morning. Still no hot water so Naceur started early to boil up a big bucket of hot water for us. I have grown used to the bucket shower.
We arrive at the airport only to find the flight is delayed by 1 hour. Its not the best airport to be stuck for any amount of time. So we arrive in Rome and try to catch the bus to the city, but now the bus is running late.
After settling in to the apartment we find a local supermarket to buy some nice fruit and salad stuff. After tea we walk to the Colosseum which is a 10 minute walk away. Thats it for tonight.
9th
The day is spent trying to find stuff we havent already seen yet. Its not hard as there seems almost to be an endless supply of ruins, cathedrals etc. So its a long day walking the streets.
Tomorrow Alan heads for home while i fly to India
10th
As Alan doesnt fly out till 2.40pm and i dont fly out till 9.40pm we have some time left for exploring. I has arranged a late checkout with the owner, 5pm. Well this is where we have a problem. We get back to the apartment at 11am only to find people in the apartment and they want us out right now. I tell the guy about the late checkout but he is adamant that its 11am. He calls the owner and she tells me she never gave us permission to stay past 11am, even though in her email to me she says its ok and i have to pay 25 euros extra. Anyway whithout much choice we pack and leave.
We walk to the train station where you take the train to the airport. Alan leaves me once again and i have to find a place to store my bag for the day. Now i am stuck walking the day with my back pack.
Well by 4pm my legs have had enough and i to take the train to the airport and have a long wait ahead to departure, which turns out the flight is delayed by 1 hour.
Enjoyed our short stay in Rome, pity it had to come to an end for Alan. I am sure he was not looking forward to going home and back to work.
