Brenton Kovacs's Travels
The bus ride is very pleasant from Prague to Cesky Krumlov. Plenty of nice green scenery.
My host Martin is waiting at the bus station and takes me to his apartment. We spend some time chatting before he leaves. Its a nice cosy place about 3 kilometres from the old town, so i will certainly cover some miles walking to and from the town. After unpacking i must get to the supermarket to get some supplies. There is a supermarket about 2ks away. Well i was disappointed, as the supermarket shut at 11.30am, and its now 3pm. I know there is another supermarket that will be open, the problem there is its 6ks away. So i make the 12k return trip with all my shopping. Lucky it is a tad on the cool side.
I take a rather strenuous walk up to the hill of crosses, where there is an old decaying church. It has great views of Cesky Krumlov. The wind is blowing a gale up here.
Exploring the old town and the Castle is very rewarding. Such a cool place. There are plenty of tourists here, all enjoying the sights. The Castle is wonderful, and the bears are also a bonus i was not expecting.
One day i take the bus to a town called Cesky Budejovice. The town is famous for its huge square in the centre of the old town. The square is surrounded by some nice old buildings, but not many tourists. The river area is very nice and peaceful.
It did rain one afternoon and 2 of the nights was heavy rain. Lucky for me i did not get caught in the rain.
It was really nice staying out a little from the town. The apartment was at the start of the forest and I could walk along the river for miles, and there was not a house or person to be seen. This i really enjoyed, as for the last few months its been city after city. Now its nice to be somewhere a little more remote and to be surrounded by trees again.
Next stop is a little town in Austria called Bad Goisern. It a base which i will use to explore the famous town called Hallstatt and Obertraun. Cant wait to get into the mountains.
