Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Well the bus and train ride went pretty smooth. Almost missed the bus from Krakow. I decided to take the tram to the bus station. So all was going ok until the tram stopped and the driver made everyone get off. No idea why. So i am now further away from the bus station than i was when i first boarded the tram. So not having a clue which tram will get me there, i had to walk very quickly, and made it with minutes to spare. the worst part is that now i am hot and sweaty, and the bus is full of young women talking as loud as they can.
The next part of the journey on the rain was a lot quieter.
I arrived into Prague with the temperature in the mid 30's, and i have to walk about 2ks to my accommodation. This apartment is huge and is nice and cool. After doing the unpack, its off to the supermarket to stock up on some food.
After having something to eat i take a walk into the old town and the main square. It is packed with tourists, but it is nice and quiet. This is such a pretty place form what i have seen so far. Prague was very lucky as it avoided being bombed during ww2, so it is in very good condition.
Had to spend part of the first day in a shopping mall to keep out of the heat. Then its a nice evening stroll along the Vltava River, where its nice and cool. The Charles Bridge is meant to be one of the prettiest in Europe, and its hard to disagree. The pedestrian bridge is packed with people all out enjoying the evening.
The heat wave continues. With the temp going to get to around 35c today i head out early to visit the Prague Castle. Well it is certainly one impressive place. The views are great, The gardens are magnificent. The building that make up the castle are are great. Not bad for something that was built around 1360.
I spend most of the time there in the gardens, as it is a lot cooler. Heading back to the city i come across the John Lennon wall. It is a wall dedicated to graffiti, but before that it was a place where people would express their views and opinions against the government.
After taking a mid afternoon rest form the heat, i head up to National Memorial, which is not far from where i am staying. There are plenty of steps to get to the top, but the views here are just brilliant. And the sunset was amazing. Lots of locals are here out enjoying the cool of the evening, taking in the beauty of the park.
At last a cool day. It was far more pleasant walking the streets of the New Town in the milder conditions. In fact the rest of the week is going to be cool, how nice. Visited the Technical Museum, which houses a huge array of displays from cars, bikes, bicycles, planes, old household items, the history of photography and more. It took me nearly 3 hours to take it all in. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit there.
My last days in Prague are spent wandering the almost endless cobble stoned streets, making various new discoveries. Such a cool place.
The next destination is Cesky Krumlov, about 3 hours south of Prague.
