Brenton Kovacs's Travels
Our first day in Zagreb is a great day. Starts off at minus 1, then climbs to around 10 by midday with glorious sunshine all day. So we head up to Sljeme, the top of the Medvednica mountain. The walk is about 15k round trip. We start at 150 metres above sea level and climb to 1050 metres above sea level. The views at the top are great. There is a hut/cafe where we feed our hunger from the climb. We order some hearty soup and finished with a sour cherry strudel. Best food i have had for long time. It was very busy and took us half an hour to get served, but was well worth it. By the time we get back to Zagreb, the sun has set and its around 5pm. We both feel a little tired, but thoroughly enjoyed the day out in the clean crisp mountain air.
The city is buzzing with street markets in nearly every square, day and night. Plenty of ice skating rinks which seem to be busy all the time.
