Winter ?? You have to be kidding. Last night we tossed and turned in a humid 22c low. Today it is a sunny and sticky 29c
At least there was a cool breeze on Port Douglas Inlet this morning as we set off in our hire boat. Tried to catch some live bait with no luck so resorted to the frozen stuff. Had several good bites and I almost got a good size Mangrove Jack but lost it at the last moment as it chewed through the leader with its sharp set of nasty looking teeth. We tried several little mangrove lined inlets with not much luck then caught several Bream and several other unknown species all of which were undersize and went back
Then Susie hit the jackpot with a 55cm long Mangrove Jack (pictured). She did not breath whilst hauling it in and was nearly blue in the face when we got it onboard. Had to take the boat back as it was booked by someone else in the afternoon otherwise could have been out there all day
Cleaned it then took it straight back to camp and it was baking on the BBQ within no time. Beautiful tasting fish enough for 2 generous portions
She is now snoozing it off whilst I watch the Swannies belt Melbourne (I hope) on the IPad

John Kirwin Good on you. Well done, Susie.
