A fascinating morning at Timespan this morning learning about the clearances before a long, windy drive to Ullapool to catch the ferry to Stornaway. The sailing to Stornaway was gorgeous and we were lucky enough to see a pod of dolphins swimming alongside the ferry and then the most beautiful sunset as we docked.

Some school work and one last game of racket ball at the leisure centre before crossing back to the mainland and heading for Helmsdale and steak and chips all round for dinner at the Brit Stop.

Up early to get a ferry to Stronsay. Again took the bikes but this time managed to see a lot more of the island - 3 different beaches, all lovely, all slightly different and all to ourselves. Luckily the weather held off until the cycle home and the slightly bumpy ferry back before a hideous storm overnight - I thought we were going to blow away!

Hurrah, the weekend and the sun was shining - so why dd it take us so long to get outside and stop doing school, shopping and chores?! Eventually managed to get to the South Islands and drive across the barriers and just get to see the inside of this amazing building - constructed by Italian POWs during the Second World War from 2 Nissen huts..... definitely worth the trip.

We had a great time looking around the exhibition and replica house before exploring the site and then spent a few hours on the beach - building stone circles, stone-age houses and practising stone skimming. After such a fab edventure day we treated ourselves to the local Italian restaurant for dinner - yum!
