We left Laerdal late morning to catch the car ferry across the fjord to Sogndal and our first visit to the Vinmonopolet in Norway.
"Mummy, have we really just stopped to buy wine?" asked M. "Hmm, yes. You can't buy it many places in Norway and they don't sell it on certain days, so yes..." says Mummy trying to turn this into education on Norway's licensing laws. It was certainly educating for us, naively trying to buy a bottle of wine in the supermarket in Laerdal. We had been warned that wine would be expensive in Norway but hadn't researched the fact that you can only buy it from one monopoly shop which is only situated in big towns and only open very restricted hours.....
Anyway, Bob was stocked and the children even managed a play on the playground in Sogndal before we then drove on to Fjaerland and a visit to the Glacier museum to do the official learning for the day and see a sobering exhibition on climate change before retreating to Bob to hide from the continuous rain.
