Today was sunny after the heavy rain of the previous day. Again, we headed into Bergen on the bus/tram with the first stop being the science museum.
As we had already bought the Bergen card (a sunk cost) the science museum was free to us. It was a great place - loads of hands-on activities, a wind turbine motorbike, weather-forecasting, flow of water, electrical currents and kicking a football as hard as you can!
The highlight for me was the workshop where we were given the objective of dropping a flashing ball from 3 metres without setting off the flashing lights. This was for both parents and children so we all started off - originally as 2 teams but soon ended up as 4 individuals!! I went for a parachute option, Tracy had a pulley system, Daniel a combination of parachute and pulley and Megan (who took the longest) with her carefully padded option! They all worked eventually so everyone was happy in the end!!
After a picnic lunch in the park we headed into town to the tourist information where we were greeted by the most useless person ever. He didn't answer any of our questions properly! The best one was when I asked whether the camping magazine was in English. He said "yes" but when I challenged him (having looked at it), saying that it was all in Norwegian, his response was to point at an advert and say "apartement - definitely English." At this point I was lost for words and didn't look at Tracy as I could sense her in hysterical laughter already. So, I politely said "thanks for your help" and we legged it!
We then caught the funicular to the top of Mount Floyen to enjoy wonderful views over the city. We walked to a lake at the top of the mountain before letting the children enjoy a fantastic wooden-framed playground.
Even though we arrived back at Bob exhausted, we still managed one family game of Rummikub before bed.
