The blue skies of yesterday were replaced by grey and we took refuge in the wonderful museums of Bergen.
We purchased a Bergen Card.... we have never bought one of these cards in any cities we have visited, having looked a couple of time and decided that we would have to visit numerous places that we had no interest in to even vaguely get our monies worth, but the maths on this one seemed to work and the museums looked interesting even before we realised that we were faced with a rainy day.
We headed in on the bus and light railway to start with art at Kode and the KunstLab where we visited the art laboratory "where visitors are free to explore the world of art through play and experimentation". It was great, seriously good, even Roger (who hates art museums) liked it and we got to the point where we had to drag M&D out so we could go see the rest of the city....
So next on the list was Bryggen - the old district - and we thought that we would try and visit the fish market, ha ha, it was about £10 for a prawn.... so we ate our cheese sandwiches overlooking the historic centre and then headed for the Bryggens museum.
We though this might give us a little history on Bergen but actually there was a exhibition on osteoarchaeology and whilst M&D were busy making skeletons I was learning about this fascinating topic whilst Roger found an exhibition about the Boys Brigade! After collecting some temporary tattoos as prizes for the children's hard work as researchers we headed on to the final museum of the day...
The Nowegian Fisheries Museum was another really interesting place. I was flagging by now but M&D&R seemed to still be engaged as we learned about the "treasures of the ocean" and how Norwegian fishermen live. Actually, days later, as we explored the fjords I was amazed by what the children could tell me about fishing - all of which they had learned here!
Top marks to Bergen for the museums and we still have more to visit tomorrow with our Bergen Card - I have promised that we will go to the Science Museum first thing - loving the interest in learning!
