We arrived in Monument Valley late afternoon and a storm was already building. Ray Ray had already endured a sandstorm but there was more to come!
Neither of us knew what we were expecting from Monument Valley but it just didn't do it for us. Maybe it was the fact that the Monuments (buttes) were quite spaced out from each other, maybe it was the lack of access to the park (a single 17 mile dirt road, not allowed out of your car!) maybe it was the weather or maybe it was because we have already seen and done so much already but it just wasn't that great,.
On the plus side we had a lovely authentic Navajo meal at 'The View' resturant, I had a chicken stew and Nikki had Navajo Chilli both with blue corn frybread, which was really good.
The weather improved for a short time so we took some photos then retired to the 'rustic' campsite a flat patch of sand above the monuments. Then the thunder storm came back with a vengance and we were so worried by the amount of rain that we had to reverse Ray Ray away from the edge of hill for fear that we would get swept away during the night!
In the morning it was clearer but our feelings hadn't changed so we high tailed it outta there! Heading for the next stop Grand Canyon South Rim, did someone say there was a chance of snow????
