So today, we were leaving Vegas, it was a sad day. We had our parking valid until 3 though, so we got up and put all our bags in the car after checking out and went for a walk down the strip one last time. It was lovely and hot again. So we walked town towards McDonald's so we could have breakfast, we took some photos and then walked back, we went into New York New York as Marie wanted to check it out. We walked in and used the toilet and then left basically, we went back to the car and set off. We were heading for California and more specifically, the mojave desert. We were going to the last state that Route 66 is part of, things were coming to a close on that front. Another reason I was slightly subdued today. Anyway, we left Vegas and had a good length journey through the mountains towards Needles and a little further than that was the Mojave. We went through a town called Oatman, which was full of Burros, which were the descendants of mining donkeys that old miners let free and they never left. We even saw one eating out of a German man's car, they were leaflets and paper everywhere!! This was high in the hills in the middle of a very entertaining drive, so many twists and turns and chicances, I felt like I was on a rally stage of the WRC. After a good days trip we ended up at the mojave desert, but we hadn't eaten and the campsite was deserted aside cows and rabbits. So we decided we needed to go back to Needles to eat, and that meant nearly 40 miles back, so we did that and got a DQ and marie had subway, then we realised that it would be easier to check into the KOA in Needles and return to the Mojave tomorrow. So we did that instead and checked in around 10 am do set up the tent in the dark. It was really hot and so we got some sleep ready for more travelling tomorrow.
