Sunday 17 June (Lochgoilhead)After a few pleasant days spent with John and Jill in their home and visiting Largs, surrounded by howling wind outside, by Sunday the weather was at last good enough to venture back to Vega. We set off up the Clyde and into Loch Long under full sail in a light NW breeze, enough to get us up the Loch with John on the helm for his first sail of the year (and almost ours!). We passed Holy Loch and sailed the whole length of Lochgoil, past Carrick Castle and the splendid houses by the lochside, and picked up a buoy at Lochgoilhead (at only the third attempt) for afternoon tea and ginger cake. The sail back was in a much more fluky wind, and we were shadowed by the Military Police launch past the former nuclear submarine facility as we tacked back and forth across the loch. Finally we gave up and started the engine again, and headed home for fish and chips and Lewis Hamilton's victory in the US Grand Prix!
