We left from florence to head to ROMA! Very excited we find out we will be visiting the leaning tower of Pisa en rout, not so exciting we find out that Pisa is a 2 hour drive from Florence...in the opposite direction from Rome. So we will be adding an extra 4hrs onto our journey. But, worth it! We got a little sleep on the bus, and after paying the road tax for entering a new city we arrive! Just a quick note on the road taxes, we have come to realise how corrupt Italy is, and how much power the mafia has. The road taxes are to pay for "new roads", yet with continual pot holes, no lines, signs or dodgy traffic lights, it's pretty easy to see the money isn't going any where it should. With 100 buses paying $160 for only an hour, and buses are there every hour, of every day, nearly every day a year, they'd easily make $100000 a day...and that's only using Pisa as an example! Every single city does this, Roma was $280. Crafty mafia men. But, rant over, it was an awesome sight to see:) the site is made up of 3 parts, the baptistery, the church, and the bell tower. They are all works of art, so grand and impressive. All to soon, we were battling though the masses of hawkers who are become a standard sight in the scenery, back to the bus. A long drive and we reached our hotel in Rome late afternoon, a 45min break to freshen up and we were back out, getting dropped into the city for a quick walk of a few sights! We saw the fountain of four rivers which was built to depict the largest rives they knew of at the time and the Trevi fountain. That was fun as we through three coins over our shoulders for luck:) shame that the coliseum was pillaged of its marble to creat it, but still beautiful. We then went to the pantheon which was just WOW. The traditional pagan temple is a prefect dome on the inside and left open to the sun at the top. The pillars and mass of it is incredible. We then walked to our dinner, which was disappointing to say the least. Because we were 2mins late, all our entrees were cold because they had put them out, regardless by the fact we weren't there. Then it was just a general pasta and the dreaded chicken leg! Agh! But meh, Romans aren't know for their cooking skills so it was expected. We then had a lovely night tour of the city, seeing every thing lit up we stunning. I also got very excited seeing the grate of truth, featured in Roman Holiday. The one where you put your arm in, and it you told a lie, it would be cut off. Original, it was a guy with a sword who just judged on his own cord, which I found pretty amusing. Rather exhausted we heading to bed early so we would be ready for the excitement of the next day!!
