The old magic bus stopped at a fruit farm on the way to Queenstown which kept me happy - although they claimed to make fruit ice-cream for you there and then, I should have known better as I thought they were going to make proper good stuff - all they did was take some cheap vanilla ice-cream and blend it with the fruit of your choice!!! Arh well I was daft to think they could do it whilst you waited!
The weather was pretty terrible when we got to Queenstown but we managed to find a wine tasting shop where we got an amazing platter of cheese and meat with crackers bread, olive oil, dried fruit and chutney! Yum! Although I did eat a whole block of blue cheese (which they seem to do very well here as much creamer then the sstilton stuff back at home) as Charlie didn't have any of that. We tasted some wine too but that was a bit expensive.
The next day was a very early start as we headed to Milford Sounds - famed as one of the most beautiful places in the world! It was a very long bus trip though - luckily they stopped off at a pie shop in Te Anau (gateway to Milford and Doubtful sound), I think it was one of the best pie's I ever had! It was vennison which they have an abbundance of in the area - so yum! Anyways we eventually made it to the milford sound, there were a few good waterfalls along the way due to the bloody heavy rain. Once we got there we got a cruise out between the cliffs and mountains until we got to the tasman sea then we turned round and came back again. The sites weren't quite as picture perfect as they could be, I saw some amazing postcards. However we were in luck when we came across some bottlenose dolphins - one even leapt out of the water for us - pretty special! Also saw some seals and a waterfall higher than Niagra falls. We had a couple of wines on the boat to keep the spirits up in the rain. It was a very long trip back (made better as we had netted the front seat on the bus - me and Charlie have a system for this).
Once we got back from the longest day trip ever we hit the town! We pre-drank a bit due to me being on a budget - thanks to the wine Kenny bought me we were well equipped! Then went out and met some fellow magic bus people. To our amazement wine was only 1.50 a glass (shouldn't have pre-drunk). It was a good night and we hardly spent anything but I didn't half suffer the next day - it was practically a right off. I knew it would be when we got to bed at 5am - I don't know where the time goes!
Thankfully we had another day in Quuenstown before we had to head off on the bus - sadly we didn't do much due to me being crook but we did make it up the Gondola and we wandered by the lake. We also went out for a pizza dinner which was very nice! Then back for an early night and a nice chat with my Mum. I had a very early start the next day as I was off to do the Catlins Coaster - this was an extra trip down to the south peninsula to see the wildlife before heading to Dunedin. I left Charlie to fend for herself on the magic bus as she wasn't on the extra trip!
