We were picked up early by the bus and headed to the steepest street in the world which happens to be in Dunedin - it was a bit of a trek up and I can't understand why anyone would want to live on it, imagine backpackers walking up the slope infront of your window every morning!!
We then headed up the coast and stopped at a beach to see some boulders, I unfortunately missed the boulders as I decided to have a fried breakie which took ages to arrive, whoops! We sent our mate Beck from Manchester down to take pictures though! As we continued we got some amazing views of the most beautiful colour lakes - they were really milky light blue this was due to the water coming off the glaciers and picking up sedement which sat in the water. They looked really lovely and behind them was views of Mt. Cook. There were also plenty of dams in this area which we crossed.
We were well chuffed when we arrived at Lake Tekapo as it was sunny and the place looked marvelous! We stopped at a tiny church which is popular for weddings as it sits on the edge of the lake. The hostel was a bit ropey here so we went off to treat ourselves to a soak in the hot pools, which were up the side of a hill overlooking the lake - rather nice at sun set!
Sadly we were due to go to the observatory to star gaze that evening but it was called off due to some clud cover that had come across. So we missed out on that as we headed out to Christchurch early the next morning.
