Not so long on the bus today. We went past another glacier called Fox Glacier then stopped to view Lake Matheson - known as "the mirror lake" as it is famous for its reflections of the Southern Alps which dominate the skyline. The scenery changed on the way to lake Wanaka from dense forest to vast plateaus as we entered the Central Otago region. We passed Lake Hawea which is absolutely massive and 400 odd metres deep! Lake Wanaka was pretty massive too and I think someone said this was the largest Lake on the south island.
We dropped Charlie off so she could do a sky dive and as I had already done one a few years back I opted out and headed to our luxury hotel near the Lake Wanaka. We actually had an ensuite twin room which had a tv and everything!! Wow proper luxury! Sadly it had been all sunny all day when we were on the bus but soon after I arrived it clouded over. Charlie came back exhilerated after chucking herself out of a plane and we had a romantic pasta dish for two!
The following day was a bit of a let down - we had a lie in as the bus wasn't getting us till 2.30pm and we were hoping to do stuff around town but it was absolutely chucking it down and all we could do was seek shelter! Sadly I got carried away and completely broke the budget buying clothes in a sale (damn I am really going to struggle for money soon!). We made some plans for the week ahead and caught the bus to Quuenstown.
