The overnight train wasn't as comfy as the last but was still one of the nicest weve been on! Apart from the fact we were supposed to arrive at 04:30! Luckily it was late so we got an extra half an hour sleep! When we got off the train there was someone selling ferry tickets to Koh tao. We got one of those and got squished into a tuktuk- we were literally sat on a bench in the middle of the seats to fit everyone in!! We got on the ferry and it was pretty full and the seats were hard to sleep on and it was boiling! But we finally arrived in Koh tao. Luckily the plae we been looking to stay at had a guy at the pier so afte having a chat with him he sai there was space and drove us there. It was a diving resort and we'd planned on doing a discovery dive, but after talking to one of the guys, even though it was horribly expensive, we decided to do the open water course instead. Sadly they only had one dorm bed free so we had to stay at a bungalow place next door which was fine, but stupidly ant infested!! >:( That evening we had to watch some videos and then the next morning met our instructor. Me, Emily and McAll were in a group with two really nice German girls. Steve was our instructor, he was really nice and has been diving for about 17yrs! We had to do some study stuff from the book- going through work they'd set before and then in the afternoon we did some practice stuff and skills in the pool. The breathing was the hardest thing to get used to because it's so hard not to brethe through your nose! We learnt how to empty our masks of they filled with water, take maks off, get your buoyancy right, emergency assents etc. The next morning we had to do some more book stuff- going through work set yesterday and then in the afternoon did our two first proper dives. The first was just getting used to everything and the second we had to do some skills. The whole thing was so fun! The next day we had a horribly early start- we had to meet at 6:45! After breakfast we did our last two dives. On the first one we got to see a whale shark, which was AMAZING!! It was only a baby but was about 3.5m and apparently is only around the island for about 6 weeks a year!! It was so close to us, swam right over our heads, and we even had to move out of the way at one point!! Then on our last dive we had to do two mor skills- hovering and taking our masks off and putting them back on. I messed up the taking the mask off and breathed through my nose, basically messing up my whole breathing for a few minutes and not getting my mask on properly for a while! Bad times. After we got back we got our diving books grabbed some lunch and on the way to the pier picked up our SSI cards :) but mine does have the most horrendous, taken before 7 in the morning photo on it! Luckily the ferry to Koh pan gan was nicer and quicker than the last one we got!
