Our overnight train came on time! When we arrived in calcutta, it was a bit of a shock. One because it was so insanely hot and humid, and two because it is so much more developed and modern. They have loads of yellow taxis- NY style. We arrived at our hotel, which is pretty nice. After we dumped our stuff we went for a wonder and managed to pick up a guide book. For lunch me and Emily had one of these wrap/roll things which they sell a lot. They are so yummy and filling and ridiculously cheap- mine was only 17 rupees!! Then we went to caffe coffee day and back to the hotel to escape the heat. For dinner we went to a "Spanish" restaurant and I had a much craved lasagne! The next day we got up early and went to see St Paul's cathedral and the Victoria memorial (which was actually much better than I expected.) Then for lunch I had my first ever subway (I don't know how it's taken so long) and it was so good!! That evening we went to see howra bridge (apparently the busiest bridge in the world). It was supposed to be all lit up and it wasn't which was a bit of a disappointment. We headed back towards the hotel and went to pick up our laundry- only to find my cardigan was missing! :( after attempting to describe and ask if they had seen it, with no luck, we went to the "moulin rouge" for dinner and had some amazing fish, the first fish since we arrived. The next day we decided to go to science city (the cool kids that we are.) I expected it to be really really rubbish, but it was a bit like at Bristol and we actually really enjoyed it. After lunch we headed back to the hotel to to avoid the heat, and tron legacy was on which was good! We then had subway for dinner and had an early night. The next day was our last day in India so we went to see the dakshineshwar temple and then went to a shopping mall. This included a lot of long taxi drives in the middle of the day *sigh*, and the mall was so the opposite of what were used to seeing! We then headed back towards the hotel and that evening headed to the airport. They have the most ridiculous system- someone checks your ticket two or three times before you even get to the check in desk, where they then send you back to get your luggage scanned and it all seemed like a bit of a faff! Also for such a big city the airport was pretty small and quite outdated. Our flight was at 1:55 in the morning and only two hours long do we were all very sleep deprived!
