Retired & Traveling
Everything went smoothly on our flight from Philadelphia to Barcelona, and we arrived only about 30 minutes behind schedule. Rich was in contact with Isabelle, our AirBnB host, and we met her at the apt. She gave us a quick tour and explained how things worked, and then we were on our own. We were all pretty tired, but hunger trumped that, so we set off to find a place to eat. Around the corner from us was a quaint coffee and sandwich shop, so we gave it a try. It was very tasty, Yelp came through for us! Once the hunger was slated, we all took a nap in preparation for our tour. We had about a 20 minute walk to our meeting place and were the first to arrive. We were served some samples of ham, chorizo, cheese, olives and champagne. Our tour guide, Gabby, took us out and we learned some history of the city. We visited the famous market in Ramblas, which had every kind of food item you can think of and then some! No samples there, but we did get to sample some candy at the next stop. After the candy place, we went to a local Tapas bar and got to choose our drink (Pam and I had the Sangria, Rich had a glass of white wine and Mike got a beer). Next came about 5 different tapas dishes--I liked most everything except some cold eggplant dish. It was fun to try all the different dishes. After our eating fest, we got another short tour of the city, and were taken to a flamenco show. We had front row seats and the performance began right after we were seated. I didn't know what to expect, but probably would have gotten a lot more out of it if I spoke Spanish! The dancer was really good, but after the second break, I decided I had had enough and we headed for home.
