Our first real post from Bangkok! We have been here for 2 days now and in one word: Awesome!
First things first. Our flight... It was a very smooth expierence with british airways. We had one quick flight to london and from there an 11 hour flight to BKK. To our surprise we got free unlimited drinks during all the flights and as much snacks as we could eat. With a pilot who sounded really posh and only shook us a little in our seats above russia. So all in all really good.
So after strapping the 90L backpacks on our back we decided to get a taxi to our hotel. I was really glad we checked the website first to get an estimate for the price. So with that price in mind we went to a taxidesk on the airport. "SAWADEE miss, how much to get to sukhumvitroad?" 2200 baht ( 55 euro). Uhm oke well is that the best you can do? Yes. In that moment we came to know that "No thank you" we will be one of the most used sentences in bangkok. We went to were the locals stand in line for a taxi and joined the queue. 450 baht in total ( 12 euro). Sounded a lot better.
One sidenote about the traffic in BKK, they are totally insane!! They are coming from left and right and at high speed as well. A mix of tuk-tuks and scooters and taxis and a lot more! And along the way we have seen the king of Thailand at least a hundred times. He is still very important and people worship him, so they decorated the highway with like a 1000000 pictures of his face. And even more of him in the centre.
After checking in Aloft bangkok sukhumvit we went to our room. At the 30th floor. You probably allready saw the picture on facebook. Spectacular. What is even better is the view from the pool on the 10th floor. It was around 16:00 and we went to get some thai street food. A short stroll on sukhumvitroad and a visit to terminal 21 which is a really big shopping centre. But more of that later. Thank you for reading and I will keep you informed for more!
