It is nice to stay at a resort especially if it is for free . The only downside is that the city centre is a 15 minute drive away. Not walkable. So there was no nightbazaar visit for us this past 2 days.

On the other hand it is good to stay inside for a change. Use the internet and post pictures. Tell some stories. Pamper ourselves with the most awesome hotelroom ever! Only go outside to use the pool and go to the city to eat something. Planning the rest of our time in Thailand.

And that is why we decided to visit laos for a day. In the end we only stayed in there for 45 minutes. We went to the northern most point of thailand to see the golden triangle. The place where burma, loas and thailand meet. And if you take a boat north up the river you can get to china in 8 hours as well.

The golden triangle itself was not really spectacular or moving. Again a lot of marketstalls with souvenirs.( By now we also think it is mostly the same crap they sell all over in thailand). Around the water there were a lot of companies that offered boat tours to see the golden triangle from up close on the river. You could even go to the casino in burma for foreigners 1000 baht and for local thai people 50 baht. ( It is the only place where thai can gamble since there are NO casinos in thailand whatsoever).

We did not want to go to Burma, so we decided to take the boat to laos because we were promised there was another big market were they sell "stuff" for even cheaper then in thailand.

Up we went with a family from Australia on a little boat to loas. We had to buy a visum for 45 minutes and had to stay within the market. Once arrived the first thing we saw was a guy behind a marketstall with huge glas jars with cobra's, scorpions and tiger tails in it. You can see the brutal picture.

He offered us a free sample. Lizet almost had to puke. I on the other hand wanted to try some of that horrifying looking drink. I could choose between the tigertail whiskey or the kingcobra mix. Offcourse as any selfrespecting backpacker would do I chose for the kingcobra elixer. Which is loaon believe that makes you strong. There I went. One shot. It was actually really tasty! Once finished he offered another sample.

After that we got offered cigarettes and even more whiskey. After having some samples we went back lightheaded to our boat.

45 minutes well spend.
