HELLO WICHITA, KS!
We're not in Kansas anymore! I think I finally understand that expression on a whole new level. Kansas is simple, calm, farm and prairie land and somehow also beautifully forgettable.
People are different everywhere we go, and the Midwest (or as I like to tell Greg, the South) is no different. People are simple here, there seems to be nothing remarkable about them one way or another. Its very calming. If you need a getaway from the technology and the madness, Kansas is the place for you.
One thing they don't seem to understand is the concept of a left lane as a passing lane...There just doesn't seem to be any hurry or much going on here.
WARREN THEATRES
This is set up like an old fashioned theatre. Even the restrooms are set up old fashioned and have lovely red plush chairs. Many things about KS seem to be a bit like stepping back in time.
OLD COWTOWN MUSEUM
This is unlike any place I've been! We decided to check this out after running low on ideas for things to do in Wichita. Let me just say, this place is completely awesome! Its listed as #5 on top things to do in the area, but I really think is should be #1. Its completely unique and they basically have preserved building in a town from the late 1800's/early 1900's.
Walking down the street of this town (which is basically just a dirt road), you feel like you are in a midwestern movie, or have somehow teleported to the days of our ancestors.
There are houses and businesses... a general store, school, church and dentists office. Its unlike anything you ah ve done anywhere else.
The houses are so well preserved and even the furniture is dated for the time period.
I will say the medical offices... like the denitsts office looked way more like an office of torture than someplace to get help. Based on what we read, I wasn't far off. To top it off, they would hang your teeth in their window to show off their workmanship. Super weird....
Even if you aren't much into history, this is a fun and old-move-like event that all ages can enjoy.
MARRIOTT WICHITA
I LOVE their elevators and their gym. They have these oldl fashioned gold looking elevators that seem like they are from a old fancier time period. Here I used the gym, because it seemed too nice to waste! The beds were much more comfortable (some of these have been a bit rough on our trips this year!) and I can definitely say I would come back here.
THE KEEPER OF THE PLAINS
This has an Indian history, and its really neat to see. We saw it during the day because its walking distrance to the museum. Its probably worth seeing at night too because thats when the fire pillars are all lit up. The statue represents the four elements of life: fire, water, air and earth.
MID-AMERICAN ALL-INDIAN CENTER
I didn't realize Indian tribes came to Kansas to learn about each other. The museum is right next to the Keeper of the Plains statue set up. The museum is pretty small but worth the visit. There aren't any tours available during November so if you want to get a feel of Wichita and learn some history, this is a must visit.
OLD TOWN
Revitalized! You can tell because old town has a new pizzazz to it. There isn't a lot to do in Wichita, however this is where the night life is. There are a few good restaurants and endless bars! The movie theater is one of those places you can get food and watch a movie.
Go to a bar, get some alcohol and apps, then head over to Taste and See for a fabulous dinner!
The only thing I really wanted to see was the underground tunnels, however sadly there isn't much to see. I think they filled a good amount in and the rest is pretty hazardous.
TASTE & SEE
We had the taco appetizer and the cheese dip. Both were really good! Amazing flavors... got th seafood mac and cheese and wow! The cheese sauce was excellent and the flavors are like angels singing! Can't believe we found such a hidden gem in Kansas! Who knew!
SLATE CREEK SPA & WELLNESS
Very relaxing! I think I almost fell asleep at one point!
SEDGWICK COUNTY ZOO
This is one of the cleanest and most open zoos we've ever been to! The animals all look like they are well cared for and they look content. You can tell this zoo is one of the best
