OVERVIEW
September 2009 is our 3 year anniversary! We took a vacation to see beautiful Atlanta. Did you know? Peachtree Street is apparently the place to be and the most coveted address in Atlanta.
We took a tour of downtown, saw Georgia Tech, the zoo, saw the Falcons, the aquarium, the Coca-Cola Museum & the Atlanta Braves!
DOWNTOWN ATLANTA en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peachtree_Street
Such a pretty city! We took a tour and saw where the Olympics were held, they still have a monument with the torch.
We saw where Martin Luther King Jr preached and where he lived. They have an "eternal flame" that stays lit in his honor.
Atlanta has an underground shopping area. Its like a strip mall underground. I think its a tourist trap, plus it was dark. Not a fan of this.
GEORGIA TECH ramblinwreck.cstv.com/sports/m-footbl/geot-m-footbl-body.html
We went to the Bobby Dodd Stadium and saw Georgia Tech vs. Clemson. This was the most passionate, absolutely crazy game I've ever been to. People take their football super seriously here.
Georgia Tech was up the 1st half of the game, and Clemson almost came back but Georgia Tech got a late field goal to win the game. And the crowd goes wild! Its completely contagious. Its hard NOT to have fun at this game.
ATLANTA ZOO www.zooatlanta.org
They have panda bears!!! And they eat bamboo, and they are so incredibly cute!!!
There are huge, super old turtles... or technically perhaps they are tortouses. They are OLD. Older than me, by a long shot.
Loved this zoo, really welcoming. Loved the panda bears!
ATLANTA FALCONS www.atlantafalcons.com
Let me just say again that sports are a BIG deal in Atlanta. We saw the Atlanta Falcons vs. the Miami Dolphins.
Thank goodness for public transportation. It took us right to our hotel!
AQUARIUM www.georgiaaquarium.org
Atlanta has the most amazing aquarium I've ever seen. EVER. I saw alien-looking fish that I didn't even know existed. I saw a gigantic squid (that's a first).. I saw stuff that looked like it was straight off of a screen saver.
I saw a bunch of different types of jelly fish.. it was amazing. Zebra turkey fish. Lined seahorses. Razorfish.
I got to pet a ray... in the water. There's just so, so much here. If you only go to see one aquarium in your lifetime, it should definitely be in Atlanta.
COCA-COLA MUSEUM www.worldofcoca-cola.com
A bit of a tourist trap, but that's OK!! I still say you should go once!!! Best parts? Sitting on the American Idol couch...how cool is that???
Also, they let you try all the different types of sodas that they have all over the world. Each country has their own preferences and they are totally different from the USA.
Italy has the most bitter soda ever.. its called Beverly. I don't get it. It tastes like grapefruit, except worse. Africa has the sweetest soda ever, it so sweet is almost sickening. It like eating extremely sweet and sour candy.
I'm biased as usual, but USA had the best soda by FAR. Not too sweet, not gross and bitter. Its just perfect!
ATLANTA BRAVES.. TURNER FIELD www.braves.com
So, baseball must not be the most popular sport in Atlanta! They love their football, but the Braves did not get half the attendance that the college football games got.
We had fun. We got super close to the home plate and we didn't pay a lot :)
BEST DINNER www.buckheadrestaurants.com/pricci
Italian restaurant. The. BEST. risotto. I've. ever. had. EVER. 'Nuf said.
FINAL THOUGHTS
Atlanta is at the top of my list for favorite cities ever. Great foot. Nice hotels. I would definitely go back to Atlanta. I probably would not bother trying any other restaurants, I would just make reservations at Pricci. If you'd got a good thing, stick with it!
