We drove to Rockhampton and on the way I noticed a sign for a place called Mount Morgan. Hayley had some friends there which she had met ten years before when she went travelling, who she had told us to call on our way through. As we hadn't realised that Mount Morgan was just before Rockhampton, we found the nearest campsite and contacted them.
Megan invited us to come for dinner and stay the following night. So, the next morning we checked out of our campsite and went to see the Capricorn Caves. They were pretty cool and at one point we had to squeeze through small gaps n the caves to get out. There were apparently bats living in there that are Carnivorous and eat small animals and baby bats but luckily didn't come across any of those!!
We went to the Parkhurst pub for a really nice lunch and a glass of vino and just took our time enjoying the sun.
Megan had given us their address and said to call when we were on our way so we decided to drive towards Mount Morgan and see if we could find them. We only had to turn around twice, but managed to find them by the early evening - phew!
We arrived at their beautiful (and huge!) home and met all the family (Megan, Howie, Lydia, Gabby and Darcy). Megan cooked us a lovely meal and we had a lovely evening with the whole family (even Megans Mum Fay came round to meet us).
During the evening there seemed to be a smell of smoke in the air and I was getting a little worried as there had been bushfire warning around Australia for a few days. They didn't seem worried about it though, so that made us feel better. Howie checked the news to make sure and it turned out to be due to the dust storm in Sydney so we all tucked up for the night and went to sleep.
I fell in love with Darcy's tiny dog Annalese which I wanted to take with me. Bless Darcy, he said I could have her and even up to the very last minute, when we were getting into the van to leave said "Dont forget your dog!" (and he really meant it! lol). Unfortunately we didn't have room for her booooo! Their other dog Holly was pregnant whilst we were there and she looked pretty fed up. Since then she has given birth to 11 pups, so no wonder she'd had enough! Ouch...
We're hoping that we'll either see them all again in Australia or that they'll come to Jersey. The girls Lydia and Gabby said they'd love to go travelling, so they know they've always got somewhere to stay! ;O) you too of course Darcy! lol...
We said our goodbyes and headed on our long drive (4.5 hours!) to Mackay. There wasn't really anything to do in Mackay so we just chilled in the van for a day, which we're getting a bit too used to!
