First thoughts whilst driving into Airlie Beach - Beautiful!
We found a campsite about half hour to 45 minutes walk from the town and set up camp. We caught a bus in and went for a wonder around. One of the things we've noticed most about Australia is the amount of free places available for families to go. They have massive lagoons with water features and free gas BBQ's etc... It's such a shame they couldn't do things like that at home.
We stopped for a drink and then took a slow stroll back to the campsite. We did pretty much the same thing the next day, but also booked our trip around the Whitsundays. We just crossed our fingers that the dust storm cleared up in time, as otherwise we wouldn't really get to see ll that much.
The next morning we were picked up at 9.30 and taken to the boat. They advised us that there had been sightings of Jelly fish so it would be wise to pay for a stinger suit. We didn't fancy taking any chances (we've seen Bondi Beach Rescue!) so hired a couple. We looked like superheros and not in a good way! lol... Although we were pleased we didn't have a family of four like some of the others, because they looked like the Incredibles! lol...
Unfortunately the dust storm was still about, so visibility wasn't very good. We went to one of the Islands and lay around on the beach for an hour or so before having a lovely lunch of salad, prawns and other yummbly stuff. Whilst we had lunch, there were a couple of Iguana's hanging around which were really cool. There was a big sign saying 'Do not feed the wildlife' but as usual several people couldn't read it and started throwing down bread and ham. Not 100% sure Iguana's usually bake and eat their own bread but there's always one eh!
We went snorkelling after lunch and saw a few rays and the usual reef fish but it was a little bit chilly after about half an hour so we jumped out.
All in all we had a really lovely day out, it was just a shame tht we couldn't really saw more! Again, more excuses to come back! ;O)
