We had pretty crappy weather yesterday. I think I had been speaking too highly of it; it rained all day and kind of scuppered the plans we had. Not much to write about today during the day either. We did however, go and watch our first ice hockey game tonight!! :) The sport is massive over here! Like baseball to the Americans or the premiership to the English.
It was at the Bell Centre Stadium which is literally 5 minutes walk from the hostel, and we went to see the Montreal Canadiens .Vs. the Nashville Predators. The hostel have a deal going where you get the ticket, a free drink at the hostel bar and two free breakfasts at the hostel (which include cereal, yoghurt, fruit, croissant, muffins, juice, tea and coffee) for under 60 dollars!
The atmosphere the whole way through was absolutely amazing! It was everything I thought it would be and more. I think we were in the rowdy section as there were guys infront, behind and at the side of us constantly shouting. The game wasn't as aggresive as I thought it was going to be, although one fight did nearly break out towards the end.
Before we went we asked how long it was on for and the guy at the hostel said 7.30pm-10.30pm but the game is only on for an hour so we wondered what on earth they did for the other two hours, especially as he said it's not like football where they have half time, it's continuous play. Well that was a load of rubbish!! They play for 20 minutes then have a 17 minute break, then play for 20 minutes and then have another 17 minute break, and then they play the final 20 minutes! Even when they were playing they stopped every couple of minutes for maybe 20 seconds or so.
There were some great tunes being played during the breaks, and there were women spread out amongst the crowd to try and get us going by making a load of noise and cheering "Go Habs Go!!"
Even though we lost 3-0 the atmosphere was amazing and I would jump at the chance to go again. It was a great evening.
