Bye bye Santiago & your smog!

Late afternoon brought a trip on the 1925 vehicular up Cerro San Cristobal. Hmmmmm very long Disney queue for a short, rickety ride. Wonderful views above the smog of Santiago. Treked up to La Virgen de La Concepcion. Hmmmmm walk down was interesting. 35 minutes on scary, loose dirt paths which seemed to zig zag forever. Have definitely walked my way into getting to know Santiago. Really enjoyed it here. Would love to come back but with more money to enjoy so...

Chilling in the sunshine in the amphitheater outside Pablo Neruda's house, La Chascona "the messy haired woman", named after his mistress & later wife, Mathilda. Pablo Neruda, a famous Chilean poet, politician & communist party member, who won the Nobel Prize for literature in 1971, built the house in 1953. Crazy Columbian Trojan horse!

Cathedral built in 1774. Amazingly the building survived the 2010 earthquake (8.6 on Richter Scale). Many of the newer, 19th Century, beautiful churches & buildings were not so lucky. Many museums are still closed & sadly priceless artefacts have been lost.
