Ami's Latin American Walkabout
Spent the afternoon at Palacio Portales (so named after it's massive 5 meters high entrance doors) built by Simon Patino, "The King of Tin". Beautiful gardens but the house was the real highlight. Having made it rich at 40 after years of working as a salesman, Patino was keen to show off to all the posh Cochabambinos who turned up their posh noses at his new money. So he built this lavish & utterly OTT house full of marble, sculptures & amazing frescos. He also had an carved moorish billards table to match the moorish tiled & decorated games room. A truly crazy sight to behold! Suppose it is like footballers houses today!
Oh & Patino never lived here!
