Sadly its been another 10 days of studying since I last had a chance to get you all up to date on my travels. There is a lot of work to be done for every day of class. I have worked out that Im reading about 250 pages of law books a week, no wonder Im busy!
We have been able to find some time to kick back and relax though. Labor day weekend was spent at the jazz festival. We have begun to learn our way about a little and have found some nice, inexpensive places to go for dinner which gives us a break from cooking and washing up!! The temperature has dropped considerably from last week and its amazing the difference. Where before we were out and about in tshirts and shorts, now its jeans and jumpers, almost overnight! Apparently this is fall!! But its still sunny out which is the main thing!
The clubs and societies have begun as well, and I am getting myself as involved as possible to make the most of this year. So far I am getting involved in public interest law and I am volunteering with the family law court, depaul legal services and a homeless charity and this works out about 14 hours of voluntary work a month. I am also looking into attending a college trip to New Orleans in January where 30 students go down and help the victims of Hurricane Katrina with both legal and manual help. There are a number of other societies most of which do seminars or talks during the lunch hour and provide free food, so they have been well worth joining!
Ive been working on finding myself a job and I may be starting to work for my human rights professor on a paper he is writing on human rights in latin america. I would just be a lowly research assistant, but it pays money and is an area Im interested in working in so we shall see if it works out.
I am very much enjoying my new church, all of 5 minute from my room!! I have volunteered in the sunday school and I have been placed with the infants and toddlers who are inbelievably cute! I am also getting involved in their student program, where they organise brunch after church for all the college students, which is nice, there are even some more europeans who I have met through church.
In 2 weeks time I am heading to Boston to visit family friends and see some of the sights, im very excited! This weekend there are lots of plans afoot for beach clean ups, breakfasts out, picnics etc so were still managing to socialise!
