Just about to head back to Maidstone after spending 3 weeks with great friends.
Highlights from these 3 weeks
Scotland - the West Coast is well worth a visit, scenery is fantastic. Distillery tours are good, but you only need to do one as the process is the same everywhere, just go in and do the tasting! (I can hear the howls of protest at that comment). I also saw Drummond Castle Gardens listed in the top 20 gardens in England and I can see why.
Sywell Airshow - I've always loved the sound of Merlin engines but I have to say the noise from the Gloster Gladiators Bristol Mercury comes very close. Great to see a Canberra bomber, the Red Arrows and the Breitling wing walkers especially given how windy it was.
2 Lancasters and the Vulcan - yeah I know I'm a plane geek but after missing them at Sywell due to the weather it was a plane spotters dream to be at Waddington to see them take off, even more so given we were only there due to a navigation error! Not only that we got to have a nice little picnic with friends in a farmers filed with lots of other like minded families. Especially good having a chat with a guy who had driven up from Oxford to see them.
Sir Isaac Newtons house - whilst I'm skeptical about a 400 year old apple tree it is still something to know you are standing in the same place as one of science's greatest minds all those years ago and without all the crowds like Rosslyn Chapel.
Walled gardens, quaint coffee shops and pubs - lots of inspiration for when we get home and nothing better than spending time with friends over a quiet beer or freshly cooked scones and home made jam.
Thanks Krysia, Pete(s), Kristian, Paula, Willow and Tabitha for having us, it was a great time.
