I made the short train journey from Fremantle to the centre of Perth. They say Perth is the most out of the way city in the world. I can see why, I felt like I was kinda in another country when I arrived, I couldn't put my finger on why things were still the same as another city just smaller. I made my way to Barracks Backpackers. It was a really nice backpackers, bar, loads of TVs, pool tables and ping pong tables and the rooms were ok. I didn't really do much the first day apart from catch up with my blogs and explore town a bit.

The next day I had a well-deserved lie-in, unfortunately thought his meant I missed the free breakfast. I got up and made tracks into town, and went to see the bell tower, which claims to be one of the world's largest musical instruments. I then discovered a 5k run which was happening that night called the glow run; it wasn't a serious run as you were encouraged to stop and dance at certain places. It looked good fun and I wanted to enter but unfortunately I was too late to register. But they happen all over the place so I'm going to see if I can do it somewhere. So then I spent an hour or so looking for something healthy to eat and ended up with a very expensive burger and chips. I made my way back to the hostel where I chilled out, and finished reading my book until it was time to hit the beers.

The next day I woke up early planning to make the most of my day. I had decided to visit Perth Zoo. I started walking to the jetty where I would need to catch the ferry from but the heavens opened and showed little sign of stopping. So I postponed my visit to the zoo for a couple of days. And returned to the hostel where I had myself a Basford Day. I watched the film Haywire, pooped out for a pint, Peth is very expensive for drinking, it was an outrageous $9.90 a pint! I also had a steak which when purchased with a pint at The Universal bar came to a grand total of $15 which considering a pint is normally $9.90 made it a great deal. I then watched United get slaughtered by City which wasn't the greatest thing ever!

The next day, despite the weather still being a little gloomy I went to Perth Zoo. It was a decent zoo. Had all the usual reptile houses, giraffes, kangaroos etc my personnel favourites of the day was the Rhino's, the massive Croc and the Galapagos (probably spelt horribly wrong) Tortoise which was huge. The talks on the animals were also really informative. I found out about Gibbons on the Monkey Around Talk, did you know that all Gibbons are born blonde, then after a year they trn black, then after 6-7 years the females turn blonde again. Also the heirachey within the Gibbon family is Mother, baby, baby's older brother / sister then the father. They also told us they were a very endangered species because of Palm Oil, which is in food, cosmetic products and pretty much everything. The girl doing the tour said we should stop eating Tim Tams, and despite how attractive she was that is the reason we will never get married. Tim Tams are awesome. They are like a better version of a penguin chocolate bar, except they don't have the joke on the back. I also attended a talk about African Painted Dogs. It was a good day. And it continued when I met my friend Ben who I use to work with fundraising. We went to go something to eat with his missus Nicole and his mate. We ended up at The Brass Monkey. The place was a bit s***, the service was crap, but it was good catching up with Ben. He had just returned to Perth after doing an opening for his documentary 3 mates 7 seas in Sydney, unfortunately due to me being on the road I couldn't make it. But he gave me a copy of his dvd which I watched when I got home and it was amazing, the best thing I have watched for some time. So I advise you to get a copy, just visit the website 3mate7seas.com and 50% of all sales go to the Black Dog institute which deals with suicide especially people young who commit suicide.

The next day was to be my last in Perth. I had found an advert on gumtree from two Germans Alice and Daniel who wanted were going to Darwin and was wondering if anyone needed a lift and share fuel costs, so I obliged. Perth wasn't doing much for me and I wanted to crack on with my tour. I decided to make use of my last day and first went to the Australian Museum. It was ok, especially the space and dinosaur stuff but to be perfectly honest I wasn't really in a museum sort of mood. So I went and chilled for a bit at the hostel until I met Ben. The night before we made the cracking idea of selling his DVD on the streets, using the techniques we had used Fundraising. It would just be for an hour and he said he would split everything we made 50/50. If nothing else it would just be a good laugh. So off we went. Ben sold two within 15 minutes but then we encountered problems as the police were mincing about. We wasn't sure if what we were doing was technically legal, so we moved, but wherever we moved they would reappear so after 30 minutes we cut our losses, decided to quit while we were ahead and headed back to my hostel for a beer. Ben needed to get back home for a meeting of some sorts so we said our farewells and wished each other luck. Hopefully I will get to meet him again at some point as he is a top lad. That night I planned to meet one of Jacck's friends Chris. Jack said he was a nice bloke and that he would show me around Perth. So we arranged to go for a few beers that night. The only problem was that I had to get a bus at 6.35am the next morning. Still not one for missing out, I decided I would still go out, make the most of the night and if the worse came to the worse I would just have to pull an all-nighter. We had a good night, as Jack said he was a top lad and we had a few beers around Perth and got a bit tipsy.

It was a great way to end my short time in Perth but now it was time to hit the road again and head up to Darwin.
