So I was meant to get up at 5.45am to get the 6.35am bus to meet the German couple I would be travelling with the next six days. Instead I woke up at 8.30am. The night before had certainl took its toll on me. Moments later Daniel (One half of the German couple) called me to see where I was, I quickly made up some excuse and said I had been delayed at the hostel and said I would get a taxi there in the next few minutes. He said he would give me a call back with maybe a better place to meet which would be cheaper for me. I quickly finished packing my things away and then the phone rang. It was Alice (The other half of the German couple) she told me to get a train to Midland station and we would meet there. So I gathered my things checked out of the hostel and made my way to Midland via a steak, cheese and bacon pie.
I met Daniel and Alice outside the Woolworths in Midland. They were a nice friendly couple. Daniel was 37, Alice 33 and they were from a small town from East Germany. The 4 wheel drive camper also looked good too. This time on the road trip I would even get a mattress and it was pretty spacious. I packed in my stuff and then we set off. Perth to Darwin, around 4000km. That's the same distance as Moscow to Madrid, and we planned to do it in six days! We set off, although the camper was spacious in the back and was more than adequate for three people, I'd argue you could get four, but the front was cramped. It wasn't the best of designs. The person sat in the middle had to either straddle the gear stick or have their knee up to their chin. We eventually decided although this was forbidden but someone should sit or lay in the back. I was made up with this decision as I got to get my head down and have a few hours kip, which I defo needed after the night before.
Our first stop was New Norcia, this was an old town with some old buildings scattered around the place, for me it wasn't too interesting and the funniest part of the day was a swooping magpie attacking Daniel. Now Daniel was a bit of a hypochondriac, the bird drew the faintest amount of blood and he was worried sick, having been the victim of a swooping magpie attack before in Mackay I assured him he would be ok. We then made the around 750-800km trip to Mount Magnet where we would sleep for the night. The next morning, we awoke early as there was plenty more driving to be done, luckily I would be doing none for insurance purposes but first we had a look around the granites. These were a set of rocks scattered around Mount Magnet and some had some Aboriginal paintings on them.
After that it was time to hit the road again so until next time stay safe and take care.
