We woke up early the next day, keen for an early start. I had a spring in my step as I knew I would have signal today and be back in touch with the world. I wouldn't normally be this bothered about technology but the company I was keeping was worse than being stuck in a van with just a Kangaroo for company. Don't get me wrong the trip wasn't awful but I just felt I'd be having a much better time with a Radder, Tom Basford, Earl, Jack or Paul Kelly. Or to be frank anyone rather than this Dawn French look a like German.
Rebecca started driving but soon felt ill, so I took over for the rest of the day whilst she slept. I half wondered if she was pulling the wool over my eyes as the next part of the journey was a 90 mile straight road with nothing inbetween. Nothing on the left, or right just dessert. Or if we were lucky a kangaroo, emu or camel. We weren't lucky. I sauntered on, maintaining the 80kmph economical fuel rate and after a thorough police search we made it to a town called Norseman, where I once again had signal and was able to tell the world I was ok. So from Norseman we made our way to Esperence. This was a beautiful seaside town. And we were treated to luxury as our campsite had plug sockets, toilets and I was able to take my first shower in three days. I felt like a new man. I was clean and conversing with friends and family again. I'd also been to the bottle shop to get beers and was chilling in a field watching a movie. Life was good again!
The next morning we spent in Esperence. We did the Great Ocean Drive where we got to see some stunning beaches including West Beach, Salmon Beach, Picnic Beach and my favourite Twilight Beach. The sea was clear and the sand white. It was majestic. We then headed up to Pink Lake which wasn't so Pink today but more a silvery / grey.
Esperence was a really nice place and it couldn't have come at a better time. I needed a pick me up and this beautiful town definitely did that. I began to reflect on the trip so far, it hadn't been too bad. I'd had some great experiences I got to see twenty whales, some of the best beaches I have ever seen and also a haystack of rocks named after my great and prestigious family name. I was close to being back to my optimistic self and now it was time to set off again towards Perth.
So until next time stay safe and take care
Adi
